Abstract
A physical quantity of a molecule which can be expressed as second-order perturbation energy is investigated, by using the modified Hartree–Fock operator proposed by Huzinaga and Arnau. The calculation shows that the electron correlation in the ground electronic state is much more important than that in the intermediate excited states. The electron correlation in the ground state increases the absolute value of the calculated quantity, if the intermediate excited states are the triplets. The reverse effect can be expected, if the intermediate excited states are the singlets.
