Abstract
Using a specially constructed stress rig which can be accommodated on a neutron diffractometer, the lattice strain response of different lattice planes of samples of mild steel and an α/γ duplex alloy has been measured parallel and perpendicular to the direction of an applied tensile and compressive stress. The results show a variety of interesting phenomena reflecting the effects of elastic and plastic anisotropy.
