Abstract
Background and Aims: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Elevated LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol that promotes atherosclerosis, which is treated through a combination of statins and diet. Statins are very effective for lipid lowering, but new clinical studies show that some statins increase risk for T2D. Our objective was to study the effects of different statins (simvastatin and pitavastatin) on insulin content and glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) in β-cells.
