Abstract
Purpose: Metabolic status and fibrosis may play an important role in the progression of OA. The IDEA study was designed to investigate the effect of dietary induced weight loss, with or without exercise, on knee pain and joint loading. PRO-C3 is a measure of type III collagen formation and has been associated with fibrosis in non-alcoholic liver fibrosis NASH, where it is prognostic for fibrosis stage and acts as a pharmacodynamic marker in response to anti-fibrotic treatment. PRO-C6 is a measure of type VIα3 collagen and a surrogate measure of endotrophin - a fibrosis stimulating hormone.
