Abstract

Summary The effects of cyclohexylammonium phosphate (CHAP) in combination with other inhibitors of polyamine biosynthesis were studied on cellular polyamine levels in carrot ( Daucus carota L.) cell suspension cultures. A combined treatment with CHAP and difluoromethylornithine increased cellular putrescine and spermine levels but had little effect on spermidine levels. Difluoromethylarginine (DFMA)+CHAP decreased cellular putrescine and spermidine levels but increased spermine levels. A combination of CHAP and methylglyoxal bis(guanylhydrazone) caused a significant increase (up to four-fold) in putrescine and a decrease in cellular spermidine and spermine levels.
