Abstract

The effect of short range Born repulsion on the total interaction energy of unlike spheres has been investigated, with superimposed London-van der Waals and electrostatic contributions. The latter was calculated using the recently derived model based on the two-dimensional Poisson-Boltzmann equation. Specifically, the energy profile as a function of separation is discussed as it relates to the particle detachment process.
