Abstract

ABSTRACT Harvesting techniques based on bioflocculants are promising strategies for sustainable and low-cost microalgae production. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine for Chlorella vulgaris the influence of bioflocculants on lipid extraction and fatty acid profile. Moringa oleifera Lam. seeds and Tanfloc SG achieved flocculation efficiency above 95%. The biomass harvested with M. oleifera seed powder showed higher lipid content (51.5%) in comparison to centrifuged biomass (35.4%), and superior percentage of oleic acid and pronounced decrease in content of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids. Besides this, residual media of flocculation process showed to be adequate for microalgae cultivation.
