Abstract

Abstract The experimental design was a split plot design with four randomized blocks. Two timings of drench treatments (1 and 7 days prior to transplanting) were arranged as whole plots and two tray sizes (72 and 288 cells/tray) were designated as sub-plots. Untreated plots of plants were paired with treated plants of same tray size. Treated plants received a drench dose of 2.0 oz/acre rate applied to individual cells of bedding trays using a pipetted volume of 1.0 ml per plant. Plot size was one row of ‘Peto 696’ tomatoes 20 feet long (20 tomato plants) with rows spaced 64 inches apart. Plots were planted 14 May. After transplanting, weekly counts were made of egg clusters, larvae (all instars), and live and dead adults. Peak defoliation caused by the first generation was assessed on 2 Jul. Plots were harvested on 9 Aug.
