Abstract

Objectives: Postprandial glucose, together with related hyperinsulinemia have been implicated in the etiology of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Obesity is the most important risk factor for the development of these metabolic diseases. Previous studies have shown benefits from banana resistant starch supplementation in improving glucose metabolism. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of an acute ingestion of native banana starch (NBS) on postprandial glucose and insulin responses in obese and normal-weight subjects.
