Abstract
Sectioned adrenal glands from ether anesthetized female Mongolian gerbils ( Mariones unguiculatus ) were incubated with progesterone-4- 14C either following maximal stimulation by ACTH prior to sacrifice, or in the presence of TPNH in the incubation media. Analysis of adrenal progesterone metabolites in the ACTH-treated animals by column and thin-layer chromatography showed an overall increased rate of progesterone metabolism. In vitro TPNH stimulation resulted in selective effects on particular pathways, as reflected in an increase in corticosterone biosynthesis and diminished production of cortisone.
