Abstract
The paper concerns the possible application of energy storage system (ESS) to manage the energy flow and improve voltage quality in the low voltage (LV) networks with renewable energy sources. The ESS control algorithm has been proposed enabling the execution of active power management - as a primary task, but also reactive power control or voltage control - as an ancillary service. Both tasks are provided independently and at the same time.Simulation were performed for the model of LV network with prosumer installations in PSCAD/EMTDC environment. The simulations results were used to analyze the storage operation and to assess the impact of ESS control on the network operation conditions. In particular, it has been demonstrated how the ESS location and its control mode influence the effectiveness of voltage variations mitigation.
