Abstract

Abstract An efficient cogeneration system called photovoltaic/thermal hybrid (PV/T) collector transforms energy from the sun into electricity and heat. The photovoltaic (PV) module's electrical efficiency can be remarkably enhanced by retaining the PV cells temperature with the associated heat within the module which can be extracted by a suitable working medium such as air or water. Considerable research in the development of hybrid PV/T technology was carried out since 30 years. For the efficient usage of solar energy, different forms of solar thermal collectors and new photovoltaic cell materials have been developed. Introduction of several experimental models validated by experimental information and identified very important design parameters. This study presents an overview of research and development in hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collector technology and its household applications.
