Abstract

The paper is concerned with the theoretical predictions of the effective moduli of a particulate solid which is composed of cubic arrangements of isotropic elastic spheres embedded in an isotropic elastic matrix. Results are given up to an error of 0(ϕ13/3), whereϕ is the volume fraction of the spheres. Curiously, an asymptotic result derived based onϕ~ϕm, the maximum volume fraction of the spheres, seems to be very accurate over the entire volume fraction 0<ϕ<ϕm.
