Abstract

The effective electronic mass tensor is calculated for spherical energy surfaces, and found to contain two independent coefficients. These are equal only if the energy function is quadratic. Electrical conductivity and low-field Hall coefficient are also calculated; they involve the first derivative of the energy function.
