Abstract

The degree of polarization of the 4d shell in fourth row main group elements in bond formation has been investigated for the systems TeO2 and I2 using frozen orbital techniques. Furthermore, the frozen orbital ECP method has been appplied on these systems and on the atoms In–Xe. It is concluded that effects on the 4d orbital in bond formations in fourth row main group elements are negligible and that FO–ECP can be used for quantitative investigations of systems of this type.
