Abstract

Undoped and Y-doped HfO2 (Y:HfO2) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized by the Pechini method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that increasing Y concentration in HfO2 promotes the phase transition from monoclinic to tetragonal, with a crystallite size decrease from 5.3 to 2.9 nm. Phase changes were also confirmed by Raman spectroscopy, where the intermediate γ1-forms were identified. Moreover, microscopy images revealed the presence of spherical NPs between 6.7 and 4.6 nm. The diffuse optical reflectance (DOR) spectroscopy showed that HfO2 NPs with higher Y concentrations caused attenuation of light reflection in the UV region and enhanced it in the visible light region.
