Abstract

Objective To observe and evaluate the effect of whole-course nursing intervention on the quality of life (QOL) of patients with high perianal abscess (HPA) undergoing primary radical surgery. Methods 98 patients with HPA treated at these two hospitals from August, 2015 to February, 2018 were selected. All the patients took low incision, high line, pipe counterpart closed negative pressure drainage (VSD), and primary radical treatment. In accordance with the digital meter method, they were divided into a control group and an observation group, 49 cases for each group. The control group were routinely cared; in addition, the observation group underwent whole-course nursing intervention. The QOL and complications of the two groups were compared. Results Before the nursing intervention, there were no statistical differences in the scores of SF-36 scale between these two groups (all P>0.05). After the nursing intervention, the scores of SF-36 scale were significantly increased in both groups, and the scores of health sensation, lifestyle, emotional control, daily life ability, interpersonal relationship, and social activity were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (all P<0.05). The total complication rate was significantly lower in the observation group than in the control group (8.16% vs. 34.69% χ2= 10.242 4, P=0.000 0). The average hospitalization time was significantly shorter in the observation group than in the control group (t=21.820 6, P<0.05). The recurrence rate was obviously lower in the observation group than in the control group (0.00% vs. 4.65%, χ2= 2.041 7, P<0.05). Conclusions Whole nursing intervention for patients with HPA undertaking primary radical surgery can significantly decrease the incidences of anal pain, urine retention, wound infection, and constipation, shorten the hospitalization time, lower the recurrence rate, and improve patients' QOL, so it has application value in clinic. Key words: High perianal abscess; Primary radical surgery; Whole course nursing intervention; Quality of life
