Abstract
Under the conditions of the experiment reported herein, no advantage was shown by adding a vitamin B12 concentrate, crystalline vitamin B12 (injected), an “animal protein factor” concentrate, or alfalfa and fish meal to a purified basal ration for the growing pig. No significant differences were found in average daily gain, pounds of feed per pound of gain, hemoglobin levels or red and white blood cell counts between the various lots of pigs in this experiment. Further research needs to be done on the requirement for this vitamin by the growing pig.
