Abstract

The behavior displayed by thermoluminescence (TL) glow curve analysis and photoluminescence (PL) spectra of calcium -yttrium-oxide phosphor doped with cerium at variable concentration of Ce 3+ (0.2-2.5 mol%) ion. Phosphor was prepared by solid state reaction method with calcination temperature 1000 ° C and sintering temperature 1350 ° C in air atmosphere. Synthesized sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction technique and the crystallite size was calculated by Scherer's formula. Surface morphology of prepared phosphor was determined by scanning electron microscopy. The sample was analyzed by TL with the variation of UV doses (5-20 min). Sample shows a well-resolved peak at 117 ° C, and corresponding TL intensity increases with increasing UV exposure time. The kinetic parameter was calculated by peak shape method using CGCD technique. PL spectra of prepared phosphor show the variation with cerium concentration and it shows well resolved peak at 455 nm excited with 390 nm xenon lamp. The PL spectrum is due to transition of cerium ion in host matrix. PL intensity increases with increasing the concentration of cerium and it maximum for 2 mol% of Ce 3+ ion, after that PL intensity decreases, it is due to concentration quenching. Spectrophotometric determinations of peaks are evaluated by Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage (CIE) technique. The prepared phosphor is useful for display devices applications for blue emission.
