Abstract

In the current study, a numerical analysis has been performed to examine the performance characteristics of the slotted microchannel heat sink. Twelve equidistant slots are entrenched at the base wall of the channel. Four different shapes of slots are considered in this study. They are rectangular (case 1), trapezoidal (case 2), V (case 3) and curved shaped (case 4). Numerical simulations have been performed for these cases with Reynold’s number ranging between 150 to 350 with a constant heat flux of 100 W/cm2 and the results are compared with the plain channel. It is observed that cases 1 and 2 have higher overall thermal performance than the plain channel in which case 2 outperforms case 1 whereas the performance of cases 3 and 4 are lower than the plain microchannel. It is suggested from the analysis that the plain microchannel may be replaced by a trapezoidal shape slotted microchannel in further studies.
