Abstract

In this study, the effects of laser pulse shape on the laser-electron acceleration in vacuum have been considered. It was found that the laser plane wave with a finite duration trapezoidal envelope was more effective in transferring energy to the electron. A million electron volt single electron axially injected to the front of a trapezoidal short laser pulse with a linearly chirping frequency was shown to gain more than 50 GeV energy.
