Abstract

To evaluate two different grazing systems, one with set stocking grazing and the other one with rotational grazing using electrical fencing system, for the performance of grazing beef cattle on hilly rangeland conditions with altitude of above 2000 m two grassland areas were chosen next to each other and an area of 10 ha was fenced with wires for RG. Biomass available for grazing was also monitored. A total of 60 Simmental beef cattle were assigned to the experimental units equally. The experiment lasted for 90 days. The daily live weight gains were higher in RG (P<0.05) with no difference in mean biomass dry matter and sward height. It was concluded that RG using electrical fencing system can substantially improve grazing performance of beef cattle on hilly rangeland conditions.
