Abstract
Abstract The heat transfer and pressure drop performance of a fin-and-tube heat transfer surface has been presented in this paper. The circular and elliptical tube geometries have been considered for the present analysis. The two tube geometries are compared for both baseline (without winglet) and winglet supported fin-and-tube heat transfer surface. Three staggered tube rows have been considered and rectangular winglets have been selected as heat transfer enhancement tool. The heat transfer and pressure drop performance of the heat transfer surface has been described in terms of Nu and f respectively. To account for the combined effect of Nu and f, an enhancement factor η has also been presented. The winglets are placed at three different stream-wise locations with respect to the tubes and optimum winglet locations for both the tube geometries are presented based on the highest enhancement factor.
