Abstract

114 patients were operated on benign prostatic hyperplasia using KTP laser including the patients of 50-60 years – 9 (7.89%), 61-75 years – 47 (41.22%), 76-90 years – 58 (50.87%). The size of prostate was found to be maximal in the group of patients 61-75 years old, and MMSE value, clock drawing, levels of hemoglobin, hematocrit were minimal in patients 76-90 years of age. In addition, the last group received the maximum amount of medications. Surgical treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia using CTP laser did not reveal any differences in the postoperative period concerning the period before the operation as to the indicators of cognitive function (MMSE, clock drawing), the level of hemoglobin, hematocrit, concentrations of sodium and creatinine in the blood plasma in patients of all the above mentioned groups. In addition, this statement is confirmed by the whole set of reliable positive correlations and regressive dependences which are indicative of the fact that this method of treatment does provoke any changes in the studied parameters, but also the structure of their profile is preserved. Thus, CTP laser is a high technological method of treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, which does not cause cognitive impairment, blood system, water-salt metabolism and kidney function in patients of the age groups examined.
