Effect of time of staking on the development of anthracnose disease and yield of water yam (Dioscorea alata)

Abstract

SUMMARYUnstaked and late staked yam vines were much more affected with anthracnose disease than those staked during the first 63 days of growth in a susceptible cultivar but not in a resistant one. However, yields of both cultivars were much less on unstaked or late staked yams, probably because unstaked vines suffered from leaf shading and high soil temperatures.
