Abstract

Surv Anesthesiol 2016;60(2):60–61 One-lung ventilation (OLV) has been associated with local and systemic inflammation and acute lung injury (ALI), attributable to an imbalance in levels of cytokines, such as proinflammatory tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, and anti-inflammatory IL-10. In therapeutic hypercapnia, an interventional lung-protective strategy for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome, hypercapnic acidosis is desirable for the purpose of treatment and is achieved by intentional inhalation of carbon dioxide or by lowering ventilation.
