Abstract
SummaryUse of phenothiol at the end of the physiological fruit drop improved final fruit size of ‘Fortune’ mandarin. The auxin stimulated fruit development at concentrations up to 20 mg l−1 without causing fruit thinning. However, a concentration of 30 mg l−1 gave rise to a thinning effect that contributed to an improved response. An histological study of fruit tissues revealed that phenothiol increased fruit size by enhancing cell enlargement in juice vesicles.
