Abstract

Effects of the Cr 75Ti 25 intermediate layer on the magnetic and recording properties in CoCrPt/CoTi longitudinal recording media were investigated. Coercivity increased from 2100 to 3200 Oe by incorporating the 50 nm thick Cr 75Ti 25 intermediate layer between the CoCrPt magnetic layer and the CoTi underlayer. Improved SNR and PW 50 properties were obtained compared to the media that had pure Cr intermediate layer. This enhancement of the coercivity and improvement of SNR and PW 50 can be attributed to the increase of magnetic decoupling effects through the Cr segregation at the grain boundaries of the magnetic layer.
