Abstract

The current work is a theoretical study to determine the effect of cylindrical dimple location on performance characteristics of two-lobe journal bearing working under turbulent regime. The non-dimensional Reynolds equation used for compressible flow is suitably modified for turbulent regime and Finite Element Method has been used to discretize the equation into linear algebraic equation. In the present study, the lubricant mass is conserved in both cavitated and non-cavitated region. Based upon the texture location, two profiles of two-lobe textured bearing viz: partial textured configuration-1 and configuration-2 have been taken. Further the static and dynamic parameters have been calculated for both profiles at different dimple depths and Reynolds number. From the simulated results, it is revealed that the two-lobe journal bearing with textures in the upstream direction shows a better performance.
