Effect of tetrahydrofuran on radiation-induced and thermal oxidation of polyvinyl chloride

Abstract

It was found that residual THF has a marked effect on the formation of oxygen-containing groups in PVC by the action of ionizing radiation. Possible methods were proposed for the removal of residual THF from PVC films. Gas chromatography was used to compare methods of eliminating residual THF and the advantage was shown of extracting residual THF by diethyl ether, the latter being removed while heating in vacuo.
