Abstract

In this paper, an attempt has been made to study the slot discharge pattern occurring in the stator coils at various frequencies and maintained at different surface temperature. Epoxy-mica based stator coils were used in the present study. Slot discharges were simulated in stator coils by partially removing semi conducting tape from the insulation surface and clamping a steel flat over the exposed insulation, which acts as stator core. Partial discharge measurements were carried out on 6.6 kV stator coils with simulated slot discharges. The Phase Resolved Partial Discharge pattern of slot discharge and the variation in the slot discharge characteristics due to increase in surface temperature of the stator coil is compared at different frequencies. The partial discharge characteristics and Phase Resolved Partial Discharge pattern were found dependent on excitation voltage frequency. The results are summarized and discussed in this paper.
