Abstract

The degradation characteristics of the multilayer ceramic actuator (MCA) with applied DC or AC voltage at various temperatures are investigated. The relation between the logarithm of the life time and the reciprocal of absolute temperature for the MCA with applied DC voltage showed linearity, a temperature characteristic similar to the Arrhenius-type. For an applied AC voltage of 50Hz, the life time characteristic of MCA was similar to that with DC voltage
