Purpose-The aim of the study is to determine the impact of technological changes on age-based airport security personnel.Due to its strategic importance, airports have the potential to attract danger.There have been terrorist attacks at airports since the early years of aviation.Security control processes have been developed and implemented at airports since the 1970s.The airport security processes vary depending on the threat profiles.With the September 11, 2001 twin tower attacks, the world's aviation security processes have completely changed.Over the last decade, changes in the threat profile have occurred.The main purpose of aviation is to provide service to passengers by creating space and time benefits.The balance of passengers' comfort and safety to be maintained by air depends on the type of threats and the technology used in security.For this reason, large investments are made in the development of security technology at airports.Methodology-28-item questionnaire was applied to the airport security officers over the internet.276 security personnel working in airports participated in the study.Age-based analysis was performed using chi-square analysis.In this process, small-scale, relatively simple security systems at the airports, large-scale, high-tech systems were introduced.New technological systems are digital, networked, software oriented and mobile solutions.Although there is a rapid change in airport security technologies, the security personnel and the human element using the technology remain the same.Considering that human factor is the user of technology, the attitude of individuals towards technology is effective in ensuring airport security.Technological change has had a significant impact on the attitudes, behaviors and mental structure of the employees.Technological change causes many psychological effects such as monotony, boredom, fatigue, stress and anxiety.Findings-In the survey conducted to evaluate the approach of airport security personnel to technological change, 67% of security personnel were exposed to technological changes.The respondents defined technology as convenience and convenience (37%), innovation (36.6%) and efficiency (15.2%).Airport security personnel preferred to provide training and courses on the technology to be applied (48.6%) for the adoption of the new technology and 51.4% stated that they adopted the latest technological development applied in airport security in 7 days and under 6 days.59.8% of the respondents stated that the technological change in airport security brought about an increase in the level of security.Conclusion-As a result of findings, it can be said that the management of technological change is important for organizations.Ensuring security at airports is important in terms of minimizing the psychological, social, economic and physical impacts of technology on security personnel due to the key human factor.Training of security personnel before the technological change to be applied increases the interaction between technology and individual and contributes to the personnel to make appropriate decisions because it recognizes the technology.

Considering that human factor is the user of technology, the attitude of individuals towards technology is effective in ensuring airport security. Technological change has had a significant impact on the attitudes, behaviors and mental structure of the employees. Technological change causes many psychological effects such as monotony, boredom, fatigue, stress and anxiety. Conclusion- The psychological effects of the technological change on the employees were found to be monotony and boredom, stress and anxiety. The social effects of technological change on employees are alienation and inadequacy, education, communication and social relations. The economic impact of technological change on employees is dismissal and job insecurity. In addition, the physical effect has emerged as health problems.

Operational and human factors issues of new airport security technology—two case studies

The history of airport security shows that the security control process has been subject to substantial changes since its introduction in the early seventies of the last century. In the course of time, threat profiles have changed remarkably. Since 2001, suicide bombing has become a real risk to civil aviation. In the last decade, these changes in threat profiles, in combination with efforts to facilitate transportation by air for passengers, led to large investments into the development of new security technology. This article argues that during the development of security technology, human factor issues as well as different operational aspects should be taken into account at an early stage. It is shown how early operational testing of new technology can contribute to the optimization of security equipment and its integration into the system from a human factors perspective. Operational testing complements laboratory testing and is defined as the testing of (new) equipment in operation with a focus on systemic performance outcomes and operational aspects. Using this methodological approach, a millimeter-wave body scanner and two different liquid explosives detection systems were tested in operation with passengers at a large European airport. Results were obtained by analyzing objective data as well as subjective questionnaire data from passengers and Security Officers. These trials revealed that operational testing is a useful way of enhancing shared knowledge and collaboration between stakeholders.

The Impact of Fatigue on Workers at Dubai Airport: Experimental Study

Airport security personnel are faced with a high risk of fatigue, among other things. Employees under the said department are critically responsible for providing protection to both people and facilities in the airport. The 24-h operation of airports subject’s employees to irregular shifts which result in stress, fatigue, exhaustion and many other signs of job burnout. An interview was performed with ten employees of Dubai International Airport in which nine are from the airport security department and one is from administrative security. Interview findings indicated that the most common fatigue risk factors identified by participants include work shifts, workload, and sleep problems, among others the implications of fatigue are mostly negative, as it leads to increased errors, reduced alertness, and longer response time. All these are an indicator of declined productivity and performance among airport security personnel in executing their responsibilities of providing safety and security of people and of airport facilities. The results of the research can be used as additional information to existing studies regarding the existence of employee fatigue in the aviation industry.KeywordsFatigueAirport securityProductivity

Supervision of an airport security needs to be done since the area is not a public area where everyone is free to exit and enter without having to show identity card (Airport PAS), as well as passenger ticket. Furthermore, more stringent security controls imposed on the land side area airports (land side) up into the air side.

Assessment of the impact of technological changes on the dynamics of enterprises' economic development

The object of this research is the impact of technological changes on the dynamics of economic development of enterprises. The main hypothesis is the assumption of the presence of such an impact for a significant number of companies. The implementation of this research made it possible to make a certain contribution to the process of solving the problem of finding ways to accelerate the economic development of business entities. At the same time, technological changes were divided into three groups, namely: resource-saving; changes that ensure the improvement of the quality of the enterprise's products; changes that ensure the improvement of management, sales and other processes at enterprises. A methodological approach to assessing the impact of technological changes on the dynamics of economic development of companies was also developed. This approach involves the implementation of two main methods of assessment, namely: establishing the presence or absence of such an impact and determining the magnitude of the impact of technological changes on the dynamics of economic development of enterprises. The testing of the developed tool on a sample of industrial enterprises showed that the impact of technological changes on the dynamics of their economic development exists and is statistically significant. At the same time, the average impact of technological changes on the growth of financial results of enterprises is quite high. In particular, the average values of the indicator of the impact of technological changes on the net profit of those enterprises that have undergone at least two types of such changes, by type of economic activity, range from 11.25% to 13.32%. Since a significant number of the enterprises studied have not carried out technological changes in recent years, at least some of these enterprises may have significant potential to accelerate their economic development. The developed toolkit for assessing the impact of technological changes on the dynamics of economic development of enterprises can be used to establish the presence and extent of such an impact both at the level of an individual company and at the industry level. This will allow owners and managers of enterprises to increase the validity of the strategies for technological renewal of these enterprises.

Differences in multiple-target visual search performance between non-professional and professional searchers due to decision-making criteria.

Professional visual searches, such as those conducted by airport security personnel, often demand highly accurate performance. As many factors can hinder accuracy, it is critical to understand the potential influences. Here, we examined how explicit decision-making criteria might affect multiple-target search performance. Non-professional searchers (college undergraduates) and professional searchers (airport security officers) classified trials as 'safe' or 'dangerous', in one of two conditions. Those in the 'one=dangerous' condition classified trials as dangerous if they found one or two targets, and those in the 'one=safe' condition only classified trials as dangerous if they found two targets. The data suggest an important role of context that may be mediated by experience; non-professional searchers were more likely to miss a second target in the one=dangerous condition (i.e., when finding a second found target did not change the classification), whereas professional searchers were more likely to miss a second in the one=safe condition.

AVSEC are airport security personnel who are required to have responsibility for ensuring flight security who are required to have a license, the role of Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers is very important in security and safety. This study aims to determine whether the role of Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers in carrying out their responsibilities for security is in accordance with the SOP, and what problems occur when Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers are carrying out their duties. This study uses qualitative methods, data collection techniques in this study are interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusions/verification. The results of this study indicate that the role of Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers has carried out their duties properly in accordance with applicable SOPs and always prioritizes 3S + 1C for passenger comfort. Obstacles during passenger inspection caused an error in the engine so that the inspection was not optimal and inspection of passenger luggage was carried out manually by Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers. ,

Most professional visual searchers (e.g., radiologists, baggage screeners) face an interesting conundrum—they must be highly accurate while also performing in a timely fashion. Airport security personnel, for example, are tasked with preventing any and all dangerous items from getting aboard a plane, but they must also be speedy to keep the passengers flowing through the checkpoint. It is not easy to simultaneously prioritize two primary job requirements (accuracy and speed) that are in direct contrast to one another. While a certain level of error is inevitable in almost any cognitive task, it is arguable that many professional search environments might be even more vulnerable to error given the contradictory goals imposed upon the searchers. As such, it is critical to explore every means possible to minimize mistakes. One critical question when exploring means to improve search performance in professional settings is how do professional searchers develop the ability to search for, and steadily learn to reliably detect, targets. How do searchers improve their search efficacy over the course of repeatedly discovering an item (or by receiving feedback when missing it)? This process of iterative learning across exposures to targets is referred to here as “long-term visual search” (LTVS). To investigate LTVS the current study utilized “big data” from the mobile app Airport Scanner (Kedlin Co.; see Mitroff et al., 2015) to assess search ability improvements. Airport Scanner is a publicly available mobile app, where the users serve as airport security officers looking for prohibited items in simulated X-ray baggage images. Over 10 million users have downloaded the app, creating over 2.6 billion trials of data (see Mitroff et al., 2015). Airport Scanner contains hundreds of different targets—granting the possibility to look at how search performance develops, both generally and item-by-item, across a large number of target types and with immense power. To effectively measure search improvement, only Airport Scanner users with a minimum of 250 target-present trials were included in this study. The first analysis collapsed performance across 26 distinct targets that varied in salience, frequency, and when they were introduced into gameplay. Despite variability, uniform patterns to overall search improvement were found—detection rate and response speed both revealed steep learning curves followed by a uniform plateau in performance. Second, performance assessments were conducted individually on the 26 target items. Specifically, accuracy and response time values were standardized (z-scored) to place items on a level-playing field despite differences in target characteristics (e.g., salience, frequency). There was variability in improvement and peak performance for search accuracy across targets, but very little variability in response time performance. While individual target types led to an array of required target observations to obtain mean accuracy (i.e., reach plateau), there was general uniformity for response time with most items taking approximately 14 target-present trials to reach mean proficiency in search speed. Understanding the development of LTVS is critical for reducing errors in professional visual searches, and the current study demonstrated the iterative nature of learning, providing potential insights for improving training procedures.

Management of technological change has been the subject of research for over 30 years. Technological change has been studied by social and political scientists largely concerned with the organization and mechanism of innovation and the problems of diffusion of technological change. Sociologists have researched the spread of ideas and information and the impact of technological change on society and individuals. Social geographers were interested in the spatial issues involved in technological diffusion. Economists, on the other hand, studied the causes and effects of technological change with particular attention to their quantification with a view towards establishing methods for the determination of the economic impact of technological change. Systems and management analysts researched the process of technological change and, together with economists, have studied the relations between technological change and productivity or productivity growth. Organizational scientists are interested in the effects of technological change on organizational structure as well as on the role of management and the individual worker involved in the changed process or consumer using a changed product.

Attempts to create airport security, especially at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport which is a gate of the Republic of Indonesia is one of the desires of all users of airport services. In an effort to realize and improve airport security must be supported by competent airport security personnel. From the results of field surveys, the number of security personnel Soekarno-Hatta International Airport are: Which already has Personnel Skills Certificates (SKP): Basic Aviation Security 214 persons, Junior Aviation Security 493 persons, Senior Aviation Security 182 persons, and Who haven’t yet Personnel Skills Certificates totaling 562 person are out sourcing. According the interviews results with Head of Security Division existing condition of security personnel at terminals 1 and 2 have been sufficient, while the existing condition of the security personnel at terminal 3 amounted to 124 people who had assessments. From the analysis and discussion in order to meet the needs of security personnel is programmed and to improve the assessments needed 248 persons, lack of security personnel at the desired terminal 3:124 persons. To increase the airport tax assessment organizers can do the addition by way of both internal and external. Internal assessment is done through a test that is taken from the power out sourcing to test, while the external through the recruitment test to provide the opportunity for applicants from outside environment. Through both ways can be realized to increase the number of assessments.
