Abstract
This paper presents a study on the effect of standard pressure angle on root stresses of internal spur gears with various rim thicknesses. The stress analysis by the 2-dimensional finite element method (FEM) for internal spur gears with a fan-shaped hole was carried out, and the effects of the standard pressure angle and the rim thickness on the root stress and the position of the maximum root stress were examined. Root stresses of internal spur gears supported with pins in the planetary gear unit were computed by FEM, and the effects of the standard pressure angle, the number of pins and the rim thickness on the root stress were investigated.
