Abstract

Infra-red spectra (2300-2000 cm −1) were studied for cast PVC films obtained after separation of the unreacted, partly deuterated Cd stearate from samples subjected to thermal degradation at 180° in air. Based on the absorbance at 2140 cm −1 corresponding to the C-D stretching vibration, the amount of stearate incorporated into the polymer proved to be less than 5% of the carboxy groups of the Cd stearate originally presented.
