Abstract
In this paper, the effect of spectral hole burning (SHB) on the feedforward control of an erbium–doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is investigated. A novel experimental setup allowing to verify a mathematical model for this effect without the inaccuracies of measurement setups used so far is presented. Using this model, it is shown that SHB leads in drop scenarios to overshoots up to a certain output power level, whereas undershoots are observed for larger output powers.
