Abstract
In this paper an internally pressurized pipe made of a functionally graded material is considered. The axisymmetric elastic plane strain field is calculated. The elastic properties are considered to vary across the radius. Since the primary aim of this contribution is to investigate the effect of the radial dependence of Poisson’s ratio, the stiffness coefficient is taken to be constant. It is observed that the radial distribution of Poisson’s ratio affects the corresponding stress and strain fields and has a significant effect on the hoop stresses at the inner radius of the pipe.
