Abstract

The intermolecular interaction between polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and poly methylmethacrylate (PMMA) in N, N′-dimethyl formamide (DMF) and tetrahydro furan (THF) at various composition ranges was studied at 25°C using a dilute solution viscometry method. Solvent is believed to play a key role in characterizing the viscosity behavior of the polymer solution. The miscibility of the polymer blend was investigated on the basis of the sign of interaction parameters Δ[b]m, Δ[η]m, ΔB and μ. These investigations indicated that the examined blend was miscible in all blend compositions, more positive values observed in DMF as solvent. Hence DMF is classified as a better solvent for the examined blend in term of its miscibility than THF.
