Abstract

The chromatographic behaviour of 50 cations on titanium (IV) tungstate-impregnated papers in 10 −5−5 M HNO 3, butanol-8 M HNO 3 and HNO 3-acetone-water systems was studied, together with the effect of pH on R F values. For most cations, R F = a + bC 2 , where C is the nitric acid concentration. The effect of mole fractions of HNO 3, acetone and water on R F values is explained. A large number of analytically important binary and ternary separations are reported. Quantitative separation of Pb 2+ and Hg 2+ from binary mixtures containing larger amounts of other metal ions was achieved.
