Abstract

The dielectric properties of CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics sintered at various temperatures were investigated. Dielectric constants, ϵ′, of CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics were distributed between 2,000 and 100,000. The ϵ′ of approximately 104, which had been reported by Subramanian et al., was obtained at a sintering temperature of 1080°C. Sintering at 1100 °C was necessary in order to obtain a dense ceramic sample, and this resulted in a giant-dielectric constant of 56,000 and large size grain up to 100 μm. It was necessary to consider not only the electrical characterization, but also the microstructure in a discussion of the dielectric properties of CaCu3Ti4O12.
