Abstract

The DC conductivity and dielectric parameters of the system of a-Se 96− x Te 4Ag x ( x = 0 , 4, 8, 12 and 16) glasses have been investigated. The frequency and temperature dependence of the dielectric constants ( ε ′ ) and the dielectric loss ( ε ″ ) have been studied in the frequency range from 120 Hz to 100 kHz and the temperature range 300–390 K. Dielectric dispersion is observed when Ag is incorporated into the a-Se–Te system in the entire temperature range. These results are explained on the basis of DC conduction loss and dipolar-type dielectric dispersion. It is also observed that the DC conductivity increases and the activation energy decreases upon increasing Ag content in the system.
