Abstract

In order to investigate the effect of Si on the development of the rolling and recrystallization textures in Al-5%Mg, Al-5%Mg-Si alloys containing Si in the range between 0 and 2.0% were cold rolled 95% and subsequently annealed at 450°C up to complete recrystallization. Their textures were investigated with orientation distribution function analysis. In the rolling texture, it was found that, with increasing Si content up to 0.10%, all main orientations of the rolling texture did not show any remarkable changes. However, at Si content above 0.10%, all rolling texture components decreased with increasing Si content. In these specimens, densities of shear bands decreased with increasing Si content, and they were not formed at Si content above 0.50%. In the recrystallization texture, { 100} orientation increased with increasing Si content up to 0.50%. But, at higher Si content, it decreased rapidly with increasing Si content.
