Abstract

Effect of shoulder kinesiotaping versus low level laser in treatment of shoulder impingement syndrome

Highlights

  • Shoulder impingement syndrome is a common musculoskeletal problem that can be defined as symptomatic compression of the sub acromial structures [1]

  • Pain level was markedly decreased in the kinesiotaping group than low level laser group or control group

  • Shoulder functional level and shoulder flexion and abduction range of motion were improved in kinesiotaping group than the other groups

Summary

Introduction

Shoulder impingement syndrome is a common musculoskeletal problem that can be defined as symptomatic compression of the sub acromial structures [1]. The patient’s main complains is anterior-lateral shoulder pain when lifting the arm above shoulder level and during overhead activities [2]. The recommended management of shoulder symptoms starts with educational information about the natural course of shoulder pain combined with the advise to avoid irritating and loading activities. When no recovery occurs within two weeks, sub acromial or intraarticular injection therapy with corticosteroids are administered and eventually repeated. Physical therapy is only recommended after a 6-week period when there are functional limitations ( an activating and time-contingent approach) [4]
