Abstract

In 86 women with squamo-epithelial cancer of the uterine cervix the γ-glutamyl transpeptidase and lactic dehydrogenase activity was determined prior to radiotherapy, immediately after radiotherapy and 7 days after its termination. A statistically significant increase in γ-glutamyl transpeptidase activity of serum was established after a therapeutic doses of radium γ rays. On the other hand, the behaviour of lactic dehydrogenase was virtually unaffected. The results obtained point to γ-glutamyl transpeptidase determination as an early criterion in evaluating the effect of radiotherapy.
