Abstract
ABSTRACT The research aims to observe the effect of EDM pulse current and the easiness of the EDM process in the hole making for strut cardiac stent CP-Ti-2 in comparison to the hole making for the strut cardiac stent AISI 316 L. The process was conducted using die-sinking EDM. It was carried out at different pulse currents (1.5 - 6.0 A). The surface roughness was evaluated, and the diameter of the crater was measured. The easiness of EDM was defined based on the pulse current, the length of the cardiac stent, the percent of tool wear, the λ Ө and λ Ө ρ theories. The result shows that the surface roughness, the crater diameter, the crater valley, and the MRR increase with pulse current. The cardiac stents CP-Ti-2 use a higher pulse current (3.0 A) compared to AISI 316 L (1.5 A). The manufacturing time for cardiac stent CP-Ti-2 is longer, and the product is shorter in length compared to AISI 316L. The percent of tool wear used in the manufacturing of cardiac stent CP-Ti-2 and AISI 316 L is 68.75 and 19.75 percent, respectively. The experimental results correlate to the λ Ө theory.
