Abstract

Amorphous tricalcium phosphate (ACP) is the in vitro and in vivo precursor of hydroxyapatite (HA) and bone apatite, respectively. ACP prepared under conditions of high supersaturation and/or high pH is small in particle size and shows a high Ca/P ratio due to occluded CaCl 2. The smaller ACP particles transform more slowly to HA than larger particles in bovine blood serum.
