Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to enhance the efficiency of the extraction process for biocalcium material from tuna scleral cartilage and determine its characteristics using different ultrasound duration treatments. The results showed that the selected ultrasound duration of UT-25 minutes reduced the particle size of biocalcium. In addition, the treatment gave calcium, and phosphorus mineral content of 21.32 ± 2.03%, and 8.72 ± 0.27%, respectively. The X-ray diffraction pattern and absorption bands observed at an angle of 44.93° and at a wavelength of 1,021 cm−1 were identified as calcium hydroxyapatite. Based on these results, ultrasound post-treatment offers promise for generating soluble calcium from sustainable sources.
