Abstract

The effect of the unusual polarizability of the alkali dimers (Li2 and Na2) have been examined regarding the electron and positron scattering by them. Rigorous close coupling calculations have been made to determine various cross sections and it has been reported that the polarization potential gives rise to a Ramsauer Townsand Minima and shape resonance in the total scattering cross sections. Contribution of the polarization part of the interaction potential in yielding the overall scattering cross sections (elastic and inelastic) is enormously large.
