Rutherford cable is a multi-strand twisted cable with a two-layer structure and rectangle or trapezoidal cross section. Strands are fully transposed with respect to magnetic field. The pitch angle is important for Rutherford cable, which affects the AC loss and bending ability of the cable. Usually different magnets adopt different pitch angles according to the requirement. The winding capacity of the cable is one of a key point. To evaluate the influence of the pitch angle on the cable winding capacity and establish a reference for a new cable design, finite element method based on ABAQUS has been conducted to simulate the cable winding process.
