Abstract
The grinder is a multipoint cutting tool that uses a hard abrasive medium to machine the surfaces. In the grinding process, thousands of abrasive cutting points of a grinding wheel are engaged simultaneously during the machining of a workpiece. The change in the grinding process parameters has been observed to produce a large amount of heat. Hence surface roughness is improved by controlling the heat generated during the operation. Sim et al. predicted that the surface roughness of steel can be improved by using the RSM model. The cylindrical grinding is a finishing operation of the workpiece. In cylindrical grinding, the workpiece rotates about the polar axis, whereas the surfaces ground are concentric to the polar axis. The Taguchi method uses a loss function to determine the quality characteristics. The value of output response surface roughness is converted to a signal-to-noise ratio.
